H-shaped steel is an economical cross-section high-efficiency profile with more optimized cross-sectional area distribution and a more reasonable strength-to-weight ratio. It is named because its cross-section is the same as the English letter "H". Since all parts of the H-shaped steel are arranged at right angles, the H-shaped steel has the advantages of strong bending resistance in all directions, simple construction, cost saving and light structural weight, and has been widely used.

H beams are widely used in many constructions,such as building,highway,bridge,railway,tunnel,petroleum chemical industry and electric power industry equipment structure.H beam is environmentally friendly and reduce the nuisance dusts.H beam also can save the working time,because it is easy to carry and can be used in any weath.
The inner and outer sides of the flange of the H-beam are parallel or close to parallel, and the end of the flange is at a right angle, so it is named parallel flange I-beam. The web thickness of the H-shaped steel is smaller than that of the ordinary I-beam with the same height of the web, and the width of the flange is larger than that of the ordinary I-beam with the same height of the web, so it is also called wide-edge I-beam. Determined by the shape, the section modulus, moment of inertia and corresponding strength of H-beams are significantly better than ordinary I-beams of the same single weight. Used in metal structures with different requirements, whether it bears bending moment, pressure load, or eccentric load, it shows its superior performance. Compared with ordinary I-beams, it can greatly improve the bearing capacity and save 10% to 40% of metal. H-shaped steel has wide flanges, thin webs, multiple specifications, and flexible use. It can save 15% to 20% of metal in various truss structures. Because the inner and outer sides of the flanges are parallel and the edges are at right angles, it is easy to assemble and combine into various components, thereby saving about 25% of the welding and riveting workload, which can greatly speed up the construction speed of the project and shorten the construction period.

H-shaped steel can be produced by welding or rolling. Welding H-shaped steel is to cut the strip steel with suitable thickness into suitable width, and weld the flange and web together on the continuous welding unit. Welded H-shaped steel has disadvantages such as large metal consumption, difficulty in ensuring uniform product performance, and limited size specifications. Therefore, H-shaped steel is mainly produced by rolling method.
H Beams are commonly used in the constuction of buildings as well but also large trailers and bridges,among others.Due to their slightly different cross-section shape, thicker central web and wider flanges, H beams can bear larger loads than I beams.
H-Beams cost less than I-Beams For The Same Amount of Structural Support. H beams and I beams are two different types of structural steel members that are commonly used in construction.
What grade is H beam?
Steel h-pile beams and steel wide flange beams come in eight ASTM standards, including A36, A572-Grade 50, A588, A690, A709, A913-Grade 50, A913-Grade 65, and A992.
